Merriam-Webster defines "rejoice" as: 1) To give joy to, 2) Gladden, and/or 3) To feel joy or great delight. The definition of "day" is not quite as simple, but is indeed very comprehensive of time. "Day" is defined as: 1) The time of light between one night and the next, 2) The period of a planet or moon on its axis, 3) The mean solar day of 24 hours beginning at mean midnight, 4) A specified day or date, and/or 5) A specified time or period (age) (the remainder of which is not relevant to this article).The holiday, "Labor Day," is a day set aside for the special recognition of working people. It is the first Monday in September observed in the United States and Canada as a legal holiday, and on May 1st in many other countries.
In approximately 1000 BC, King Solomon wrote, "In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury." (Proverbs 14:23). Diligence and perseverance in our everyday work is echoed throughout the entire Bible as a characteristic that results in success and satisfaction in life. Laziness was viewed as a fault that contributed to poverty, perhaps both financially and spiritually.
So, as we celebrate today, let us bask in the wonder of the day and be thankful that God has been merciful in providing us this marvellous (Psalms 118:23), blessed day!
